It scans your DSL, cable modem or dial up modem for hacker activity, when it discovers any it automatically blocks traffic from that source, keeping intruders from accessing your system. Black Ice defender monitors in real time ALL communications from the Internet to your computer. Using its intelligent firewall combined with its advanced intrusion detection system black ice can stop attacks while leaving normal Internet communications unaffected. BlackICE defender doesn't use normal detection methods, it structurally analyses communications packets entering your system, so it does not miss attacks such as fragmented attacks and NMAP scans. You can also view the details about the attacks such as type, severity, origin, how Black ICE responded etc.
